The Elephant

Once upon a time there was an old Indian craftsman, who carved amazing elephants from blocks of wood. When people asked him how he did it he would reply, "I just cut away the wood that doesn't look like an elephant."

We like this story; we have found it repeated in a number of places.  For us, it represents what we seek to do in our consultancy work.  We don't like the word 'consultancy' as it has developed connotations.  We prefer to think of ourselves as skilled helpers, bringing solutions that really address your specific needs, and helping you to find the elephant hiding in the woods.

No-one ever uses consultancy support for the easy stuff.  Because we have a highly skilled team of people with a long track record in the public sector and the 'NHS family', we can save you time and money by cutting to the chase without undue delay.

Sorry about all the metaphors... we like metaphors, they can be very useful!

We offer a wide range of consultancy services to health, social care and other public sector agencies.  Our clients include PCTs, SHAs, PBC organisations, Local Authorities and the private sector.

Approach

We work with clients on an individual basis with agreed goals and outputs.  Every piece of work will have different contextual factors so no piece of work is the same.  We will allocate a project manager as your main point of contact and a named team or individual to support the work.

Health and social care organisations are 'complex adaptive systems'.

A complex system is characterised by components that are inter-related, where action on one part of the system has consequences, including unforeseen consequences, on other parts of the system.  Small changes can lead to big effects and vice-versa.  We use complexity science and thinking to inform our work.  Complexity science provides a 'science of understanding' that leads us to understand complex organisations differently and allows us to operate more effectively within them.
