Professor Charles Clarke returned to the Hope Street Centre
Professor Charles Clarke, Professor of Politics and Faith, Lancaster University and previously Home Secretary in the Blair government returned to the Hope Street Centre
Following a previous successful colloquia on the nature of the Big Society, Professor Charles Clarke, Professor of Politics and Faith, Lancaster University and previously Home Secretary in the Blair government returned to the Hope Street Centre for a special Platform event on 8th September - a colloquium on the role of faith based organisations in the Big Society. Faith groups already play a big role in the delivery of services in many communities. There are well established links between faith and personal well being. We will look at relationships between faith groups and the health and social care reforms. Following the event we are working on a thought leadership paper for policy makers and others.
- What are the issues for faith and faith organisations in community development and local service delivery?
- How can this type of provision support the “Big Society” and well being?
- What lessons have been learnt from earlier work and how can these be evidenced to local commissioners of services?
Speakers at the event included
- Charles Clarke Professor of Politics and Faith Lancaster University (former Home Secretary and Secretary of State for Education)
- Dr. Alison Scott- Baumann Visiting Research Fellow, Lancaster University, Reader Emeritus, University of Gloucestershire, Conseil Scientifique, Fonds Paul Ricoeur, Paris
- Rev Canon Dr. David Peacock formerly Pro-Rector, Roehampton University, and Chair, Cumbria Reducing Offending Partnership Trust.
